Man City defensive duo compared to Manchester United legends

Former Manchester City midfielder Trevor Sinclair has compared the club's defensive partnership of John Stones and Ruben Dias to two Manchester United legends.

City 's start to the season has been a slow burner but there have been signs of a significant upturn in the past few weeks, with victories over Chelsea in the Premier League and knocking United out of the Carabao Cup.

Stones and Dias, the latter a summer signing, have crafted an important partnership at the heart of defence, which has provided a significant boost.

Sinclair is among those to have had his eye caught by the pair and he has compared the duo to United legends Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

“It’s been outstanding. It kind of reminds me of when Vidic and Rio were together – one of them would make a block and they’d high five each other," he told TalkSport.

“It just seems they’ve got that kind of relationship and chemistry where they respect each other.

“They look like they’re a really good contrast of players; one of them wants to head the ball, Ruben Dias is a really good talker and John Stones’ stats… he’s played eight, won seven and drawn one and lost none.

“He’s got 93.4 per cent pass accuracy – that’s no.1 in the league – and this season he’s played ten, won nine, drawn one and lost none. When he’s not in the starting XI, they’ve played 15, won eight, drawn five, lost two.

“It’s there in black and white. It’s great, he’s had difficult times and been in the media for the wrong reasons, he’s been dropped from the England squad but he seems to have got his life together and it’s back together on the pitch.

“This is what we knew we [Man City] were buying. Everyone knew he had the potential to play like this and for me this is the best football he’s been playing in his career.”
