Man City defender Kyle Walker asked about title race vs Liverpool FC after Manchester United defeat

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has admitted it will be difficult to catch Liverpool in the hunt for the Premier League title, after a 14-point gap opened up on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp's side beat Bournemouth 3-0 earlier in the day to extend their lead and defeat for City in the derby against Manchester United leaves Pep Guardiola's defending champions adrift.

While there is still plenty of football to be played, a deficit that large has never been overturned in the history of the Premier League and Liverpool are now firm favourites to win their first league title in three decades.

As such, Walker has admitted that it will be difficult for City to claw their way back and win a third-consecutive title but assured fans they will continue to fight until the end.

“It’s going to be difficult, we all know that, because Liverpool are on fire. They’re getting wins and we are not, it’s as simple as that,” he told Sky Sports.

“We’ll keep fighting to the end, that’s all I can say. I can’t say that we can catch them because, as you said, it’s a big gap but we will fight until the end until it’s mathematically over, that’s when we will give up.”

Walker was also asked about his assessment on the game and what has gone wrong for City this season, with the full-back identifying issues at both ends of the pitch.

“As defenders we need to hold our hands up, that’s with the keeper as well, we need to start keeping clean sheets and the strikers need to start putting more away,” he explained.

“I thought we dominated the game, there was probably a bit of counter-attacking for them so they had a game plan that worked, so fair play to them.”
