Man City defender Aymeric Laporte hits out at Barcelona transfer links

Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has taken to social media to hit out at reports linking him with a move to Barcelona.

The Basque-born centre-back joined City from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018 and has since had an extremely productive career with the Blues, winning three Premier League titles, four EFL Cups and an FA Cup.

Laporte had been heralded as one of the best centre-halves in the division before suffering a knee injury in August 2019 that kept him out of the majority of the campaign.

The 27-year-old returned into the starting line-up at the beginning of last season but struggled to regain top form and was replaced by John Stones after a poor display during the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham.

Since then Laporte has been used sparingly with Portuguese defender Ruben Dias and Stones the preferred partnership in City's back-line.

This limited game time has resulted in numerous reports linking him with a move away from the Etihad with Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (reported by Dani Lopez) claiming that Laporte is unhappy at City and favours a move to Barcelona this summer.

However, Laporte took to social media to respond to Lopez's claim.

"Dani, nobody has talked to you and nobody will talk to you", Laporte tweeted.

This is welcome news for City fans who will hope they can retain Laporte's services this summer and see the Spanish international back to his best next season.
