Aymeric Laporte admitted he could have been sent off in the first half before heading in Manchester City's winner against Tottenham.
Pep Guardiola 's side lifted the Carabao Cup for a fourth time in a row thanks to the Frenchman's header eight minutes from time.
Laporte could have been dismissed before the break but escaped a yellow card from Paul Tierney for a cynical foul on Lucas Moura, before eventually being booked for a similar challenge later on the Tottenham winger.
Reflecting on the cup triumph, Laporte admitted he was treading on eggshells in the second half.
“We are so happy to win this title again," Laporte told Sky Sports.
"It’s very special for us because we lost in the FA Cup, so it’s good for us to get confidence and keep going like we have done in the past few months. We’ve been so, so good, so we have to keep playing this way to win more titles.
“It was difficult because they have good players, a good team, it’s never easy to play against a team like that. Today, we handled them very well, so we’re very happy to win today and win the trophy as well.
“The second-half, I was thinking a lot about that (getting a second yellow card) because we know that a little mistake can cost you a lot. I was careful in the second half and tried to learn from it.
“We are so, so happy to see them here. There is a few of them, I think there could be more, but happy to have the fans here.”
