Man City defender Angelino wants to earn longer RB Leipzig stay after January move

Man City defender Angelino has revealed he is hoping to stay at RB Leipzig past his current five-month loan spell.

Angelino only rejoined City in the summer after the Blues decided to take advantage of the buy-back clause in his PSV Eindhoven contract to help bolster Pep Guardiola's left-back options.

However, he could have already played his last game for the Premier League champions after making a deadline day loan move to the Bundesliga for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old made his 12th appearance for City in the FA Cup mauling of Fulham and, if he gets his way, will do enough to extend his time at the club beyond the season.

“I hope for five strong months at RB Leipzig. My goal is to recommend myself for a longer stay,” he told Sky Germany.

Left-back continues to be a problem position for City, with Benjamin Mendy and Aleks Zinchenko suffering injury problems this season and the latter being sent off in Sunday's defeat to Tottenham, yet Angelino was still allowed to depart.

The Spaniard revealed earlier in the week that he decided to leave the Etihad due to a lack of playing opportunities.

“I didn’t get many chances in the last club, so I had to look for new chances,” Angelino told German outlet Kicker. “It is great for me to have this opportunity. The club’s career in recent years has fascinated me.”

Angelino made his debut for his new club as Leipzig were eliminated from the DFB Pokal after a 3-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
