Man City defender Aleks Zinchenko has brilliant suggestion to rename Carabao Cup

Manchester City's Carabao Cup victory over Aston Villa could have played out completely differently were it not for the strong hands of Claudio Bravo.

City had established a comfortable 2-0 lead through goals from Sergio Aguero and Rodri, but a John Stones slip allowed Anwar El-Ghazi to send over a lovely cross for Mbwana Samatta to get Villa back in the game.

The goal revitalised Villa's players and their noisy supporters, with the second half a tense one as Villa searched for an equaliser. As the clock ticked into second half stoppage time, the pressure on City was increased and Villa forced a number of corners.

From one of those corners, defender Bjorn Engels looked certain to send the game to extra time as he rose highest to head towards the bottom corner. But, incredibly, Bravo leapt to his right and pushed the goalbound effort onto the post and away.

Bravo had little else to do in the game, but produced the save when he was needed most. Having been handed the start after playing in every Carabao Cup game this season, Bravo was hailed by his teammates after the game for his match-winning contribution.

"One year ago someone said we have to change the name of the cup," defender Aleks Zinchenko said.

"Not Carabao Cup, we should say it is the Claudio Bravo Cup. He did it again for us. Thanks a lot to him."

Zinchenko expanded on the battle City were handed by Villa's resolute defence, praising the Premier League strugglers for their performance.

"It was a battle," he continued. "Big respect to Aston Villa. They were well organised defensively and it was not too easy, especially at this stadium. Everyone understands that it is a final."
