Manchester City’s hopes of signing Barcelona wonderkid Gavi have reportedly been dented, with the Catalan side planning a new deal including a huge €1billion release clause.
Gavi has been linked with a move away from Camp Nou as Barcelona continue to experience financial issues. Both City and Liverpool have been touted as possible destinations, with the La Liga giants’ attempts to tie down the young midfielder having so far proven fruitless.
Barca are claimed to have upped their offer as they attempt to put Gavi out of reach of their rivals. The Mirror suggest they are determined to tie down the 17-year-old to a six-year deal and plan to slap a massive release clause onto the contract.

Gavi is reported to have had an original £43m clause, which has now doubled to £86m. Despite the huge price tag, Pep Guardiola is said to be keen on the chance to develop one of the world’s upcoming stars.
However, Barcelona are said to want to include a €1billion trigger into Gavi’s new deal. Should they be successful in their attempts, it would put the midfielder out of reach for the world’s top clubs.
Elsewhere, another of City’s youngsters is being linked with a move to the Championship. Tommy Doyle is the latest player to be touted for a season-long loan to the second tier.
The Mirror’s David McDonnell has reported that Doyle will join Sheffield United for the 2022/23 campaign. The deal would see the 20-year-old midfielder join Taylor Harwood-Bellis and CJ Egan-Riley in the Championship.
Zack Steffen could also be on his way to the Championship. The goalkeeper has been linked with a move to Middlesbrough, with the arrival of Stefan Ortega making it more likely the American will be on the move.
