Man City 'courting' Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci

Manchester City are 'courting' Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci as they're hunt for a new centre-back continues, according to reports.

As well as a defensive midfielder, Pep Guardiola wants to bring a new centre-back to City this season to fill the hole left by captain Vincent Kompany's departure.

City have been linked with several potential defenders, with Leicester City's Harry Maguire appearing to be the top target but now another name has emerged.

Italian football journalist Alfredo Pedulla reports City are one of three clubs 'courting' Bonucci as he could be forced out of the club.

The Serie A giants are reportedly on the verge of winning the race to sign highly sought after defender Matthijs de Ligt, which would mean Juventus would have five centre-backs.

It's claimed despite Bonucci's quality, new manager Maurizio Sarri 'trusts [Daniele] Rugani a lot' after working with him at Empoli and as a result he may no longer be needed.

The 32-year-old is enjoying his second spell at Juventus and played 41 times as the Italian giants once again won the league but he didn't fare too well last time he left the Old Lady.

He left for AC Milan in a shock move in the summer of 2017 but only lasted a single year after a dismal campaign and rejoined Juventus.

Guardiola is a fan of Bonucci and has publicly praised him in the past, especially for his ability to pass the ball out from the back.

It's reported PSG and New York City are also interested but 'for the moment there are no negotiations underway.'

Elsewhere, as City chase a new centre-back one could be leaving the Etihad.
