Man City could line up free transfer for David Alaba and more rumours

Manchester City may have received a boost in their pursuit of Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, reports suggest.

Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko have missed large portions of the season with injury this season, leading to speculation that Pep Guardiola could opt to sign a new left-sided full-back.

Alaba worked with Guardiola during his time with the German champions and has been earmarked as a potential recruit, though MEN Sport understand he is not a priority target.

Nevertheless, City could land the Austrian at a bargain price according to Bild who suggest the defender has reached a stalemate with Bayern over a new contract.

Alaba's contract in Germany expires next summer and is reportedly threatening to leave the club for free which has alerted City and Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, City are set to go head-to-head with Liverpool to sign Sevilla defender Diego Carlos - according to reports.

Carlos, 27, has emerged as one of the top defenders in La Liga with Sevilla and was linked with a switch to the Etihad Stadium back in January.

The Daily Star report City will face competition from title rivals Liverpool in order to sign the Brazilian as Jurgen Klopp seeks a replacement for Dejan Lovren who joined Zenit St. Petersburg last week. Furthermore, Goal claim that Sevilla have received two bids from English clubs for the defender.

MEN Sport understand defence is an area of priority for Guardiola but Carlos is not currently a priority target. Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias and Kalidou Koulibaly are the names currently on the Catalan's shortlist.
