Man City could face Ruben Dias concerns amid Euro 2020 involvement with Portugal

Manchester City will be keeping close tabs on the European Championship this summer and it could lead to some concern heading into next season.

A host of City players are representing their nation in the tournament, which was delayed last year due to the pandemic, and they will have aspirations of venturing deep into the competition.

The final of Euro 2020, which will be played at Wembley, is set to take place on July 11 - just over a month before the start of the new Premier League season.

That means those involved will face a very quick turnaround, though the likelihood is any player involved at that stage will be rested for the opening matches of the new season.

A bigger concern for the long-term though is the risk of burnout due to the amount of football player - and Ruben Dias' huge workload in the past year could lead to worries.

Only three players have played more minutes than Dias since May 2020 and only two of them are outfield players - Manchester United duo Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire.

Dias has played a total of 6,330 minutes for club and country during that time frame, accumulated from appearances in 73 different matches.

Those numbers are due to rise further at Euro 2020, as Portugal look to defend the crown they clinched five years ago, with matches against Hungary, Germany and France in the group stages of the competition.

City midfielder Rodri is among the others to have featured heavily, with 75 appearances and a total of 5,232 minutes on the field.

Raheem Sterling, who scored England's only goal in the victory over Croatia, has played 5,096 minutes over the course of 67 different matches.
