Man City 'could face Champions League ban'

Manchester City could be banned from the Champions League if they are found guilty of breaking financial rules, according to reports.

An article in the New York Times suggests Uefa investigators could push for City to be banned from the competition over accusations the club broke Financial Fair Play regulations.

It is suggested chief investigator Yves Leterme, who is the chairman of the investigatory panel of Uefa's independent financial control board, will make a recommendation later this week in regards to a final decision on the case.

The report states the body are expected to seek at least a one-season ban from the competition.

Reports published by German outlet Der Spiegel last November claimed the club had overvalued sponsorship deals in an attempt to avoid the restrictions placed on clubs by Uefa.

City remain adamant they have done nothing wrong and insist the allegations are false. A statement released by the club earlier in the season read: "The accusation of financial irregularities is entirely false.

"Manchester City welcomes the opening of a formal Uefa investigation as an opportunity to bring to an end the speculation resulting from the illegal hacking and out of context publication of City emails.

"The club's published accounts are full and complete and a matter of legal and regulatory record."
