Man City contact Liverpool FC over new coach 'welcome' threat

Manchester City have contacted Liverpool to express concern over posters on social media which urge fans to repeat their team coach “welcome” of 2018.

The posters are similar to those which invited Anfield fans to “greet” the City coach as it makes its way to the ground for Sunday’s crucial Premier League clash.

They urge supporters to line the streets, saying “Liverpool are in a huge title race in the quest for the 19 league title and 3 points against City can really push us on towards that!”

It goes on to say “Bring your pyro, pints, flags and banners – let’s make it like a European night!”

That echoed the posters which circulated ahead of the Champions League quarter-final tie which ended with the City bus being showered by missiles as it made its way to the ground.

The coach was so badly damaged that a replacement had to be found to take the players home after the 3-0 defeat.

A Merseyside Police investigation resulted in no arrests, and no fans received bans from the club as a result.

City met with the police in the aftermath, and expressed concern that they had changed the coach’s route to the ground and then publicised the switch.

When City returned to Anfield for the league match last season, they fitted their coach with video cameras, but there was no repeat.

It is not clear from where the new “posters” have come, but City officials have been concerned enough to raise the matter with Liverpool.

City are understood to have sought assurances from Liverpool that there will be no repeat of the scenes which saw bottles, flares and other objects thrown at the bus.

Merseyside Police are also believe to be aware of the matter but are not anticipating any problems, while Liverpool have emphasised that they work closely with the police on matchday security.
