Man City 'considering move for Bayern Munich defender David Alaba' and more transfer rumours

Manchester City are considering a move for Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, according to reports.

City have finally seen their Premier League dominance come to an end this season as Liverpool romped to their first title in 30 years, with much of Pep Guardiola's side's problems stemming from defence.

The failure to replace Vincent Kompany last summer was further compounded by injury issues with Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi, while there has also been issues with form and fitness at left-back.

As a result, Guardiola may look to strengthen his back-line in the summer as he aims to regain the Premier League next season.

The latest in a long line of defenders to be linked is Bayern's David Alaba who, according to the Daily Mirror, could be available as he has only a year remaining on his contract at the Allianz Arena.

Guardiola worked with Alaba during his time in Germany and helped develop him into one of the world's finest full-backs and this season the Austrian has proven his versatility by moving inside to play centre-back for the Bundesliga champions.

It's reported that Alaba's contract stand-off has alerted City to his potential availability as the Bavarians may be forced to sell so they don't risk losing him for nothing next summer.

However, there may be concerns over the 28-year-old's age, wage demands and transfer fee, especially as Bayern would ideally like to keep hold of him. Inter are also said to be interested.

Meanwhile, City have reportedly joined Tottenham in the race for Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, according to reports.

The 24-year-old is keen to play at a higher level after impressing at the Saints this season and Spurs are the favourites for his signature.

However, according to the Daily Record, City's interest is a concern for the North London club as the Dane is being considered to bolster the Blues' midfield options as he has Premier League experienced and has also previously worked with Guardiola at Bayern.
