Man City confirmed ins and outs in January transfer window

True to Pep Guardiola's repeated transfer messages, Manchester City have made no major signings in the January transfer window.

City always insisted there would be no major signings, with the club having a clear strategy in place regarding transfer targets that sees them do most of their business over the summer. Only in exceptional circumstances have they done business in January, like when Aymeric Laporte arrived in 2018.

Laporte's return to fitness this month has provided Guardiola with as big a boost as a new signing anyway after his long-term injury absence. Leroy Sane, who last played in the Community Shield win in August, is also nearing a return to action.

While there were no incomings, City did use the window to send out some players on loan and review some existing loan deals.

On deadline day, Angelino secured a loan move away to RB Leipzig until the end of the season, who have a £25m option to make the move permanent in the summer.

There were also new loan moves for Patrick Roberts, Lucas Nmecha and Matt Smith after their original deals.

Incomings:

Patrick Roberts - recalled from loan at Norwich

Lucas Nmecha - recalled from loan at Wolfsburg

Matt Smith - recalled from loan at QPR

Outgoings:

Angelino - loan, RB Leipzig

Patrick Roberts - loan, Middlesbrough

Lucas Nmecha - loan, Middlesbrough

Matt Smith - loan, Charlton

Ian Poveda - permanent, Leeds
