Man City confirm Raheem Sterling injury blow

Man City have confirmed that Raheem Sterling suffered an injury during Sunday's defeat to Tottenham and is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Sterling hobbled off the pitch in the 84th minute in North London clutching his left leg and City have now confirmed that he has suffered damage to his left hamstring.

The England international will be unavailable for Sunday's visit of West Ham United to the Etihad.

"Raheem Sterling will miss our game against West Ham this weekend after scans revealed he has suffered damage to his left hamstring," the club tweeted."Everyone at City wishes @sterling7 a full and speedy recovery."

MEN Sport understands that Sterling is likely to be out for two or three weeks, meaning the winger faces a race to be ready for the trip to Leicester City on February 22, but the emphasis is now on getting him fit for the Champions League Last-16 first leg with Real Madrid.

It's the first time in two years that Sterling has been ruled out of action, when another hamstring injury in 2018 kept him sidelined for six games.

City's stars will go on their winter break following the game against West Ham, which has come at a good time for Sterling as he should only miss two league games as well as possibly missing the trip to the Bernabeu.

Pep Guardiola spoke about Sterling's recovery powers last week and will be hoping for those powers to come through once again.

"He is one of the only guys I’ve met in my career with recovery quicker than I’ve seen before. It’s incredible," the City boss said.
