Man City confirm Kalvin Phillips injury and give team news vs Bournemouth

Kalvin Phillips will miss Manchester City's game with Bournemouth as he joins Aymeric Laporte on the injured list, while Cole Palmer is a doubt.

Laporte has been ruled out of the first month of the season at least following the surgery he had after the last campaign. The Spanish defender played through the pain to drag City over the line in the Premier League title race, but has seen the start of this season wiped out as a result.

Phillips and Palmer may also be unavailable for Guardiola on Saturday, although their problems are not expected to keep them out for as long. Otherwise, the manager has a full squad to choose from even if Sergio Gomez will not be available yet as he waits to complete his £11m move from Anderlecht.

"We have Kalvin [Phillips] with some niggles, Cole Palmer had a knock in his feet so is a doubt. The rest are fine," he said. "I have a lot of respect for Scott Parker, the patterns are so clear.

"We spoke and trained and we're ready. It's so tricky [to face promoted teams early], the first games are so difficult, they don't feel pressure because they are in an incredible mood.

"They don't have anything to lose, after the good karma being promoted, makes it complicated. After a few months all the teams have injuries, good moments bad moments, the mood in the locker room, these things happen. In the first games everyone pushes to do better so it is always tricky ."
