Man City complete deal for Gianluigi Donnarumma deputy after James Trafford exit

  • Manchester City have completed the signing of Argentine goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Marseille for a fee of £1.7m on a two-year contract.
  • The 34-year-old arrives as a cut-price replacement for James Trafford, who was sold to Leeds United for a fee rising to £45m, and will serve as deputy to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
  • Rulli previously signed for City in 2016 but never made an official appearance for the club, having been loaned to Real Sociedad before making a permanent move to the Spanish side.
  • The 2022 World Cup winner revealed he spoke to former City forward Julian Alvarez before seizing the opportunity to return to the club and join a high-performance environment.
  • City director of football Hugo Viana praised Rulli's top-level experience and desire to join, noting that he will strengthen the club's goalkeeping unit alongside Donnarumma and Marcus Bettinelli.
