Pep Guardiola praised Raheem Sterling for his Premier League achievement and for his return to form.
The Manchester City forward has spent much of 2021 playing a reduced role at the Etihad with Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and others preferred in the team, but has forced his way back into contention in recent weeks.
The penalty to down Wolves was his fifth goal in his last eight appearances in all competitions and marked his 100th Premier League goal days after he celebrated his 27th birthday.
Guardiola marvelled at how quickly the player has reached such a milestone, becoming the 32nd footballer to manage it and the eighth youngest; 82 of the century have come with City after scoring his first 18 for Liverpool.
And the manager also took time to point out the other aspects of Sterling's game that are keeping him in the team at the minute as the Blues look to build on their lead at the top of the Premier League.
"A great number, at his age 100 goals is a lot," the manager said.
"Raheem has always been an important player but sometimes there are highs and lows for the career. What we want is the best from them. I am unfair sometimes because players are performing well and don't play and I don't have an excuse.
"But sometimes when they are performing not well, we have to play another one. He is scoring goals lately and with this team Raheem has been incredibly important.
"Here it depends on performing and they have to do it every single game. His behaviour and his confidence is really good, he is aggressive in attack."
