Man City coach Pep Guardiola likens Leroy Sane situation to Jadon Sancho

Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City have done everything they can to keep Leroy Sane as uncertainty over the star's future remains.

Bayern Munich are pushing hard to sign the winger, who has had an up-and-down time of it at the Etihad; after winning the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2018, he had the whole summer with the Blues because of his shock World Cup snub and still fell out of favour for the start of the season, with game time limited again at the end of the campaign.

City remain confident they can keep the player but Bayern Munich are pushing hard to tempt him away.

Guardiola said in a press conference on Tuesday that he was hopeful over the matter.

However, in a later interview as he explained what Sane brings to the team he likened the situation to Jadon Sancho, who turned down a contract offer in 2017 and signed for Dortmund because he did not believe there was a pathway to the City first team.

"I want him," said the manager.

"He has special qualities and we play wingers and we need specific wingers. But it is his decision, it’s the same as what happened with Sancho.

"We want him, we are giving everything, but in the end, if he doesn’t want, what can you do? Nothing. We know each other, we have tried, we will see what happens."
