Man City coach Pep Guardiola jokes about new record after Chelsea win

Pep Guardiola joked that he had a new record after being told about an unwanted possession stat.

Manchester City had 46.74 per cent of the ball according to the stats - not unreasonably low against a very good Chelsea team but the lowest recorded amount for a Guardiola side in any of his 381 games as a manager.

Frank Lampard has said he wanted his side to come to the Etihad and be brave and they showed that they were willing to take the Blues on at their own game.

City's coach acknowledged that the visitors were an excellent side and praised the courage of Lampard's side before praising a "great victory" for his team as they stay nine points behind Liverpool in their Premier League title defence.

After being told that he had achieved the unwanted honour of the lowest possession in any of his games, the manager responded with humour before going onto praise the Chelsea side again.

"There is always one thing in your lifetime that hasn’t happened," he said. "It happened. So, OK, I have another record, I won one game without possession. They are incredible team with [N'Golo] Kante, [Mateo] Kovacic, Jorginho, so it can happen."
