Man City coach Pep Guardiola avoids FA action for referee comments after Liverpool defeat

Pep Guardiola will not face any action for his comments to the refereeing team after Manchester City lost to Liverpool.

The Blues boss was furious after a went against his team, and after complaining to fourth official Mike Dean during the game he then approached Michael Oliver and the linesmen after the final whistle .

Guardiola was seen on the TV cameras heatedly saying "Thank you so much" at Oliver as he shook hands with the officials, although the manager would then bat away the accusation he was being sarcastic in his post-match press conference.

“It was not sarcastic, I say thank you so much all the time,” Guardiola said. “I said the same at the Tottenham game at home. All the time I go to referees I say thank you so much."

Oliver was the referee in charge for City's 2-2 draw with Tottenham in August. Rodri was denied what looked like a clear penalty when Erik Lamela pushed him over from a corner while Gabriel Jesus's last-minute winner was ruled out when VAR clocked an accidental Aymeric Laporte handball in the buildup.

The FA fined then-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho £10,000 back in 2014 for using sarcasm in his post-match comments regarding referee Mike Dean and referee chief Mike Riley. He was fined £8,000 for contesting the charge.

However, on this instance they have decided Guardiola's comments do not need further investigation.
