Vincent Kompany has taken a member of the Manchester City coaching staff with him to Anderlecht.
The Blues legend ended his 11-year stay at the Etihad last week, accepting the role of player manager with the club where he began his career.
The Belgian club have now announced that Simon Davies will be Kompany's head coach, signing a contract until 2022. Davies, 45, leaves his role as City's head of academy coaching to join Kompany at Anderlecht.
"When Vinny asked me to make the move with him to RSC Anderlecht, I didn’t doubt”, Davies said.
"We are starting a beautiful project: taking RSC Anderlecht back to the place where they belong, with special emphasis on the development of talented young players."
Davies, a former Manchester United midfielder, has been part of City's coaching staff for the previous nine years. He spent two years as Patrick Vieira's assistant with City Under-23s, before replacing Vieira when he moved to America to take over New York City.
Last year Davies took on the role of head of academy coaching, focusing on the U-13 to U-23s to try and implement the same style across the board in City's age group sides.
Anderlecht sporting director Michael Verschueren said the decision to appoint Davies came on the recommendation of Kompany.
"We hired him following Vincent Kompany’s advice," he said. "They have been working together for quite a while and we want to bring Manchester City’s success story to RSC Anderlecht."
