Man City close in on £35m transfer that could see Arsenal sign William Saliba partner

Manchester City are reportedly close to sealing a move for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake.

Pep Guardiola's side are thought to be keen on rebuilding their back-line ahead of next season after relinquishing their Premier League title in tame fashion to Liverpool.

And according to The Guardian, City are expected to complete a deal in the region of £35million for former Chelsea defender Ake.

Ake's contract at the Vitality Stadium expires in 2022, but there is an acceptance that the south coast club will have to sell this summer.

"They're very unlucky" - Mikel Arteta reveals his thoughts on Aston Villa ahead of Arsenal clash

Chelsea  have also been previously linked with the defender, but City look set to win the race for the highly-rated 25-year-old.

The Dutchman joined the Cherries from Chelsea in 2017 after having spent time on loan on the south coast under Eddie Howe the previous season, and has established himself as one of the best defenders outside the top six.

With Ake close to a switch to the Etihad Stadium, there will be fresh doubts over the future of City defender John Stones, with The Guardian claiming Arsenal could be alerted to his potential availability.

Stones joined City from Everton in 2016 for £47.5 million but has endured an injury-blighted four years.

Arteta worked with Stones during his time at City, and with the England international reportedly keen for regular first team football, a move could materialise in the summer window.

Arsenal have already signed Pablo Mari on a permanent deal from Flamengo after an initial loan, whilst William Saliba will officially join up with his new teammates after his season-long loan at Saint-Etienne finished.
