Man City chief insists he holds no grudge against UEFA despite ban controversy

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has called for peace in the club’s war with UEFA, claiming he holds no grudges against them.

City won their bitter battle with UEFA when the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled against the governing body and overturned the club’s two-year European ban.

UEFA claimed City had tried to hide breaching their Financial Fair Play rules and the Blues have felt for years that they have been treated unfairly.

Khaldoon claims all this ill feeling is in the past and insists City want to work with UEFA.

He says they must respect the Champions League if they are finally going to win it after their disappointing defeat to Lyon in last season’s quarter-finals.

“Life is too short to carry grudges,” said Sheikh Mansour’s right-hand man. “It’s an important competition. It’s one of the most prestigious competitions in the world of sports.

“It’s a competition we want to win and it is a competition we have to respect in order to win. And this was a challenge, it’s behind us, end of story.

“I’m focussed on one thing. How I can help this club compete in this competition and win it and how to have a constructive relationship with UEFA. I think that’s the only way to go."

Success in the Champions League will no doubt be City's priority again next season as well as trying to regain their Premier League title as they continue attempting to win the competition that has eluded them for so many years.

They have never progressed further than the semi-final stage, which they reached under Manuel Pellegrini in 2016, and Pep Guardiola has come under criticism recently for his repeated failure in the tournament.
