Man City chief aims Champions League dig at Liverpool amid Premier League title race

Manchester City’s Chief Operating Officer, Omar Berrada has seemingly played down Liverpool’s Champions League final triumph last season.

Speaking to Sport, cited by Sport Witness, he addressed City’s desire to win the competition and why they haven’t been successful so far.

City won the Premier League ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side last season before the Reds went on to win their sixth European title on June 1.

And in an apparent dig at Liverpool, Berrada has insisted that unlike in the Premier League, the best team doesn’t always win the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola reacts to Manchester City's 2-0 defeat to Wolves

When asked about how much City are wanting to claim what would be their maiden European crown, Berrada said: "A lot, of course, but what we don’t want to do is obsess. It is something we believe will come.

"Of course it would give us one more point at the brand level, but it is a very random competition. Especially in the elimination phase.

"I would say that not always the best team wins the Champions League, but usually the best team wins the league."

Liverpool currently hold an eight point lead over Pep Guardiola's side following a perfect start to their Premier League campaign.
