Kevin De Bruyne will wait until Manchester City's Champions League fate is determined before making a decision on his future, according to Roberto Martinez.
City's appeal against their two-year Champions League ban, imposed by UEFA for breaking Financial Fair Play rules, will be heard next week over a three-day hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
If the decision is upheld, it could lead to many of City's established stars seeking a move, rather than spend two years exiled from European club football's elite competition.
Belgium boss Martinez, who knows De Bruyne well from working with him on the international stage, reckons the midfielder could be tempted to move if City's appeal is rejected and the ban stands.
“Of course, if Manchester City have a ban, he will take that into his decision-making,” said Martinez.
“Over the years he’s shown that if he’s happy somewhere he likes to stay and win things.
“But I think it’s going to have a major say what happens at the club if there is a ban.
“What’s going to happen with the manager and what’s going to happen with any future project?
“Kevin is a winner. I think he'll take everything into his decision.
“He'll take into consideration if there's a ban in the Champions League, if the coach and the manager that he has a fantastic relationship with is going to stay at the club.”
Martinez, speaking to beIN Sports, said it was only natural De Bruyne - under contract until 2023 - would look at the bigger picture if City do find themselves unable to compete in Europe.
“As you can imagine, this is the moment that a player like Kevin is enjoying his best years and he’s given them to Manchester City,” said Martinez.
“But then you think ‘what’s going to happen in the next four, five years?’ Nobody can give him good advice, the only advice is the one that you feel as a player.
“You’ve done what you had to do in your career without having progressed.
“The last thing you can afford to do is finish your career and say ‘I should have moved in that moment, or I should have stayed’.
“Kevin is very mature and will take everything into consideration.”
