Man City can hand Manchester United major blow after worrying Mauricio Pochettino verdict

Mauricio Pochettino will be auditioning for the role of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's permanent successor on Wednesday as his Paris Saint-Germain side lock horns with Manchester City.

MEN Sport understands that United are confident of hiring the former Tottenham boss and that Pochettino is keen to swap Parc des Princes for Old Trafford, despite being under contract in the French capital until 2023.

However, while many United fans may be excited by the prospect of watching their potential new boss in action, Pep Guardiola will be out to play the role of party pooper.

The uncertainty surrounding Pochettino's reign at PSG has undoubtedly handed City a major boost heading into their mouthwatering clash with the Ligue 1 outfit.

The ex-Spurs boss hasn't enjoyed the greatest of spells since moving to Paris and City is Ours editor Dom Farrell was joined by French football journalist Aymeric Le Gall on Facebook Live on Tuesday to discuss Pochettino's PSG woes.

Le Gall kickstarted the discussion by noting how Pochettino is yet to truly implement his own style at Parc des Princes.

ALG: "On the pitch, in the games, we don't see the famous Pochettino style. We don't know how this club, this team, really wants to play and it's very hard to explain.

"Since the arrival of Pochettino in January he has asked for time, for patience, but 10 to 11 months later we don't see where he wants to go."

Le Gall continued by adding how the former Tottenham boss has fallen into the same trap as Unai Emery and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, both of whom struggled to reach the heights expected of them in their respective tenures in Paris.

ALG: "It was the same problem with Emery and Tuchel. We never saw the style of their teams and we never saw the way they wanted to play.

"In France, we are asking ourselves maybe it isn't impossible to coach a team like PSG because maybe the players don't want to listen to someone they don't respect a lot or just do what they want! It is very difficult to give a style to this team.

"This year, I understand why Pochettino asked for more time because it was a strange summer, an important summer, with the arrival of [Lionel] Messi, [Achraf] Hakimi, [Gianluigi] Donnarumma - lots of good players. For me, the season starts [against Manchester City]."

Le Gall then concluded by detailing the French media's confusion regarding the future of Pochettino, suggesting the Argentinian could find himself left behind at Manchester Airport - in jest of course.

ALG: "This story is the craziest thing; in Manchester, against City - maybe PSG are going to leave him at the airport before they go back to France!

"I don't think PSG liked the interviews that he gave to the media in England because he was crying for a team with Messi, Neymar and [Kylian] Mbappe.

"He had asked for time in Paris, but Paris, with their owners, with Qatar, you don't have time. For me, I think it is the best thing for both United, him, and PSG [if he were to move on].

"PSG want [Zinedine] Zidane and have dreamt of having him for years, and Pochettino has dreamt of United for years also so maybe it is the best thing."
