Man City boss Pep Guardiola reveals how Ederson has reacted to Manchester United mistake

Ederson has responded well to his Old Trafford horror show and has been backed to show just how good a goalkeeper he is by Pep Guardiola .

Manchester City's derby defeat to United was partly down to Ederson's worst game for the club. The Brazilian allowed Anthony Martial's volley to squirm under him in the first half, had to rescue a back pass that went under his foot on his own line in the second half and then sent an injury-time throw to Scott McTominay to seal victory.

But Sunday's performance was a rare aberration from Ederson and Guardiola has backed his No. 1 to respond, beginning against Arsenal at the Etihad on Wednesday night.

"He’s an extraordinary keeper. You and me cannot make mistakes, the players can make mistakes, it's how they react and they always react good," Guardiola said.

City will be up against a familiar face on Wednesday in Gunners boss Mikel Arteta. Guardiola's former assistant left the Etihad to take charge of Arsenal in December and is now making his first return to City.

Guardiola always backed the former Arsenal midfielder to become a manager and he believes tomorrow's opponents are already improving under his tutelage.

"I said four years ago, after half a season I was convinced he’d be a manager and the right opportunity came up," he said.

"I would say he’s done incredibly well, his ideas, his positional play. They’ll have success with him on the bench."

Guardiola said he still speaks to Arteta "quite often", but said they had not discussed this game or ideas on football.

"He’s more than prepared, he doesn’t need it, we talk about family, the first days, how he’s settled in, normal things, " he said.
