Man City boss Pep Guardiola named Coach of the Century

Pep Guardiola has been named as the best coach of the Century for 2001-2020.

The Manchester City manager has been recognised for the prestigious award, presented by Globe Soccer, for his record at Barcelona B, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City.

Guardiola only began his first coaching role in 2007, before taking the first team coach job at Barcelona in 2008. After four ugely successful years at the Nou Camp, the Catalan spent a year out before joining Bayern.

More trophies followed, although the Champions League has alluded him since his Barcelona days, and Guardiola's three year spell in Germany ended in 2016 when he left to take over at City.

Since arriving at the Etihad, Guardiola has delivered eight trophies, including two Premier Leagues, and three league cups. The two league titles saw City become the first team to record back-to-back titles in ten years, recording the two highest points totals until that point in the process.

Now, he has been awarded the Coach of the Century award, beating off stiff competition from Sir Alex Ferguson, Zinedine Zidane and Jose Mourinho.

Described by Globe Soccer as the 'crowning achievement of his career', Guardiola won 34 per cent of the public vote, with Zidane closely behind on 30 per cent. Sir Alex Ferguson won 27 per cent of votes, with current Tottenham boss firmly fourth on 8 per cent.

Guardiola has won 29 trophies over his illustrious career, from the Community Shield to the Champions League and Club World Cup. In 664 matches, Guardiola is nine wins short of the 500 mark, with two more goals needed to pass 1700 under his management. With a win rate of 73.9 per cent, and a trophy every 22 games, it's not hard to see why he has been recognised with this latest award.
