Man City boss Pep Guardiola issues Ederson injury update ahead of Liverpool clash

Pep Guardiola has provided an update on goalkeeper Ederson after the Brazilian suffered an injury during Manchester City's 1-1 draw with Atalanta in the Champions League.

Ederson had to be replaced by Claudio Bravo at half-time as City led 1-0 through an early Raheem Sterling goal.

The Italian hosts levelled up in the 49th minute and more drama ensued as Bravo was sent off with 10 minutes to play.

Full-back Kyle Walker then spent the final moments of the groupstage clash in goal.

Speaking after the match, Guardiola issued an update on Ederson ahead of Sunday's meeting with Liverpool.

He told reporters: "It’s a muscular problem, not big, but it was a risk.

"He didn’t feel comfortable and that’s why we decided to make a substitution.

"Honestly, right now, I don’t know (how bad it is). He’s strong and we’ll try with him, but we won’t take a risk. We’ll see tomorrow.”

When asked if Bravo could play in goal at Anfield this weekend for the Premier League showdown, Guardiola said: "He’s ready to play on Sunday. He’s an incredible professional."

City are likely to be without playmaker David Silva who did not travel to Italy after reportedly suffering a muscular injury in his side's last-gasp win over Southampton last Saturday.
