Man City boss Pep Guardiola gives Nathan Ake injury update

Nathan Ake is finally due back in training for Manchester City after ten weeks out of action.

The Holland international has not played since Boxing Day after suffering a training injury, and has been the only player unavailable to manager Pep Guardiola in the last week or two.

Ake has made just nine appearances for the Blues since his £40million move from Bournemouth last summer, due to injury and the form of first-choice centre back pairing John Stones and Ruben Dias.

But Pep Guardiola has revealed he will undertake his first training session tomorrow, ahead of the clash with Wolves at the Etihad Stadium – and will join full training on Wednesday.

“He will start to come back to training in a session tomorrow before the game,” said Guardiola, who was unsure whether the problem was a recurrence of the hamstring problem he sustained on international duty in November, or a thigh strain.

“He's coming back. It was long,” said the manager. “He struggled to make a good recovery. The process to recover was slower than expected.

“Some players are like this. He did everything, the physios worked incredibly hard but we're happy he worked hard.

“The day after the game when we train together, he will be with us.”
