Man City boss Pep Guardiola gives glowing verdict on Rodri performance vs Burnley

Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City have signed an "incredible player" for years to come in Rodri after hailing his performance in the Premier League win at Burnley.

City's record signing produced his best performance yet for the club in the 4-1 win at Turf Moor, scoring the third goal with a thunderous volley from 22 yards.

It's been a slow acclimatisation to the Premier League for Rodri , with the 23-year-old taking time to settle into life at City, but Guardiola believes the Spain international's game is actually perfectly suited to England's top flight.

"Rodri was incredible for his physicality, the way he trained, he wants to learn," Guardiola said of his Turf Moor performance.

"It’s nice to talk to him about tactics, he gives his opinions about the way he played, left to right, right to left. He was in the right moment, he helped us, he adjusted and he’s perfect for this league.

"I think Man City bought an incredible player for the next years."

City looked much more fluent going forward at Turf Moor, although Guardiola remained adamant they played as well as that against Newcastle at the weekend, despite drawing 2-2.

They had space to counter into against Burnley, regularly seeing Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva travel with the ball, while Kyle Walker also slotted into a defensive midfield position at times.

"Normally in this kind of transition, you can make 15 or 20 passes, we travel with the ball, as much passes as you can make, so clever," Guardiola said.

"Kyle was incredible, so important in general when the team plays, everyone plays."
