Man City boss Pep Guardiola forgets which club he manages amid Bayern Munich return talk

Pep Guardiola was left red-faced after something of a Freudian slip following Manchester City's win at Burnley .

City closed the gap on leaders Liverpool to eight points after a dominant performance at Turf Moor.

Gabriel Jesus scored twice for the Premier League champions, with Riyad Mahrez and Rodri also on target.

The stunner from midfielder Rodri was his second in City colours for the 23-year-old following his club-record move from Atletico Madrid.

After the clash, Guardiola was asked about the Spaniard's performances in his debut season when he suffered an almighty gaffe - seemingly forgetting who he managed.

"He has adjusted and he suits this league perfectly," Guardiola said in his post-match press conference.

"I think Bayern Munich...Bayern... Manchester City bought...

"Bayern Munich? What the f***? I don't know what I thought!

"I think Manchester City bought an incredible player for the next few years."

Guardiola's gaffe comes amid speculation over a return to Munich, where he spent three years before joining City.

The German champions are on the lookout for their next full-time boss after axing Niko Kovac, with Mauricio Pochettino also a contender.

On summer signing Rodri's display at Turf Moor, Guardiola added: "For the way he trains, wants to learn and listen, he has been incredible.

"He was outstanding with and without the ball, always in the right moment with transitions too. He always helps us."
