Man City boss Pep Guardiola aims fixture congestion jibe at Liverpool FC ahead of busy December

Pep Guardiola has told Liverpool they remain "in debit" as both clubs prepare for a busy December period that could yet shape the Premier League title race.

The Blues got their hectic month off to a flying start with a 4-1 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor, closing the gap on Liverpool at the top to eight points, with Jurgen Klopp's side facing Everton at Anfield on Wednesday night.

It was the first of eight games for City in December, with Liverpool playing nine time thanks to their commitments in the Club World Cup in Qatar.

But last season Klopp's side were knocked out at the earliest opportunity in the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, two competitions City went all the way in, with the Blues playing 10 games more than the side they pipped to the Premier League title by a point.

So while Liverpool face the busier December, Guardiola reminded the Merseysiders of the difference in fixtures last season.

"Last year we played 10 games more than Liverpool so don’t worry, they are in debit," he joked.

"It’s what it is, it’s a crazy month month in December, but no problem, we are going to try."
