Man City are copying Sir Alex Ferguson's Man Utd according to Liverpool FC legend

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has explained that Manchester City are streets ahead of rivals Manchester United from a recruitment standpoint, with Pep Guardiola following in Sir Alex Ferguson's footsteps.

Not only did Man City school the Red Devils on Wednesday night in a comfortable 2-0 victory to move top of the Premier League , the Blues are also in a great position player personnel wise prior to the summer transfer window.

That's because Guardiola can 'cherry pick' players in the upcoming window rather than rebuild his entire squad, something which Man United counterpart Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is readying himself for at the Red Devils.

Souness believes that City are now adopting a similar philosophy to the one used by United legend Sir Alex during his richly successful tenure at Old Trafford when the club won 13 Premier League titles.

Whilst Souness is not predicting City to go on and dominate in the same fashion as the Red Devils did from 1992 to 2013, the former Liverpool star feels that the Blues are in a 'wonderful position' and insists United are in a 'difficult place'.

Leroy Sane reveals what Pep Guardiola told him before coming on for Man City vs Man Utd

“They’re (Man City) in such a wonderful position because they can just cherry-pick players. It was like United in the past," Souness told Sky Sports.

The Roy Keane transcript every Manchester United fan must read

"They don’t even have to come in the team straight away. They can just see the way of working and what it’s like to play for the club. United, meanwhile, are buying under pressure. What is their priority? A defender, a man up front?

Man City midfielder Fernandinho provides injury update after coming off in win over Manchester United

"City know where they’re going. Fernandinho will need to be replaced eventually and City know that, but they can look and look and look. United find themselves in a really difficult place."
