Man City and Tottenham Hotspur set Champions League record in dramatic clash

Manchester City's hosting of Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League has proved to be one for the ages, with a feast of goals at the Etihad Stadium.

Raheem Sterling opened the scoring with just a few minutes on the clock but Spurs took control on aggregate with a brace from Son Heung-Min, although not even that lasted long as Bernardo Silva's effort deflected home to make it 2-2 with the game only 11 minutes old.

The action then slowed down briefly, with ten goalless minutes before Sterling tucked home from close range to net his second of the night and put the score level on aggregate, although Spurs have the edge on away goals.

Unsurprisingly, the frenzy also set a Champions League record as 21 minutes marked the fastest that five goals have been scored in Europe's elite competition.

The previous record was set in October 2016 in the clash between Borussia Dortmund and Legia Warsaw in the Champions League group stages, where five goals were scored in 24 minutes.

That game went on to final 8-4 in Dortmund's favour and, given the dramatic first-half that has been witnessed, we could see a similar scoreline.
