Man City and England fans name Phil Foden regret following Croatia performance

Man City and England fans alike have bemoaned the fact that Phil Foden didn't start in the U21s crucial second game in their European Championship group following his very good performance against Croatia.

The Young Lions went into the tournament with high hopes due to a really talented squad that contained the likes of James Maddison, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tammy Abraham as well as Foden.

Things couldn't have got off to a better start either, as Foden scored an amazing goal against France after dribbling past six challenges and slotting coolly into the bottom corner.

Yet England went on to lose the game 2-1 in the final minute through an own-goal after defending heroically for 10-men for most of the second-half.

Their chances of qualification to the knock-out stages were slim before the second game kicked-off against Romania, but they weren't helped when Foden was dropped to the bench for the game.

England went on to lose 4-2 and seal their elimination from the tournament.

Foden was reinstated for the starting line-up for the final game of the group stage, a dead rubber against Croatia, and he immediately displayed why he should have started against Romania with a silky smooth display.

It was the City youngster's brilliant pass early on in the game that led to England winning a penalty and taking the lead. England would go on to take the lead on another three occasions before surrendering it each time for the game to finish 3-3.

Foden may have faded a touch in the second-half but in the opening 45 minutes he was a cut above the rest.

City and England fans both took to Twitter to complain that he was dropped but also to heap praise on the midfielder.

See a selection of their reactions below:

He certainly did

Time for a call-up?

Joke

Costly

Big praise

He must regret it

Head scratcher

On his way
