Man City and Club Brugge release statements after Blues fan attacked in Belgium car park

Both Manchester City and Club Brugge have expressed their shock and horror after a City fan was attacked by rivals supporters in a car park in Belgium on Tuesday night.

Guido De Pauw, 63, was attacked by Club Brugge fans as a service station in Drongen following on from the Blues' 5-1 Champions League victory at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

Mr De Pauw, a member of the Blue Moon Belgium supporters club, was attacked when he stopped at a service station on his way home from the game after trying to retrieve his scarf from a Club Brugge supporter and was then 'left for dead.'

Both clubs have now issued statements on the matter and have sent their best wishes to Mr De Pauw and his family.

"Everyone at Manchester City is shocked and saddened to hear reports of an attack on one of our supporters after the Champions League game in Bruges last night," City said in a statement.

"We are currently working with our counterparts at Club Brugge as well as Belgian and Greater Manchester Police to establish more information.

"Our thoughts and best wishes go out to the family and friends of the Belgian based supporter, who remains in hospital."

Club Brugge echoed those words and said in their own statement: "Club Brugge was horrified to learn of the events at the E40 motorway parking lot in Drongen where a Manchester City supporter, who had previously been a guest at the Jan Breydel Stadium, was attacked.

"Club Brugge strongly disapproves of all criminal behaviour, both inside and outside the stadium and puts tolerance first. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the Manchester City supporter."
