Man City and Chelsea poke fun at Steven Gerrard - but Liverpool fans deliver perfect response

Two tweets from Manchester City and Chelsea’s club accounts appear to have caused a stir among Liverpool supporters.

The rivalry the Reds have with the duo has intensified in the Premier League era with the rivals competing for top honours in the Premier League, Champions League and other domestic competitions.

Chelsea posted highlights from their 2-0 win over Liverpool on this day in April 2014, marking the anniversary of the infamous Steven Gerrard ‘slip’ which effectively cost the Reds a maiden Premier League title.

It is well documented what happened in that game, and after, with Man City going on to pip Liverpool to the league title that season.

And now the Citizens have taken to Twitter to ‘reply’ to the tweet posted by Chelsea – and their response has riled Liverpool fans.

Man City replied with an ‘okay hand’ emoji, and that did not go down well with Liverpool fans, who had the perfect response.

One fan summed it up perfectly by replying, ““Hey @ManCity. How it feels to lift a European cup?? Ohh wait......”

More Liverpool fans responded to Man City’s tweet, with many echoing the views of the aforementioned fan – here is a selection of what they had to say.

Gavin: “Rival fans have been mocking us on every post with Gerrard and Llorente, at what point of us not caring will you get over yourselves?”

Alex: "That's just distasteful lads? There's no need?”

AnfieldView: “Try winning 1 of these @ManCity.”

Rory Cubbon: “Embarrassing.”
