Man City 7 Rotherham 0: Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus among scorers for clinical City

Manchester City romped into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 7-0 pasting of Championship Rotherham at the Etihad.

The Premier League champions were never in danger of a giant-killing against the team ranked 21st in the second tier, running riot with six different scorers, as well as a Semi Ajayi own goal.

Pep Guardiola named a strong side, including the returning Kevin De Bruyne alongside Phil Foden in midfield, with a three-pronged attack of Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian should have put City ahead inside five minutes, when he headed against the cross bar from three yards out, but Sterling soon found the opener, tucking into the far corner after a superb reverse pass from De Bruyne.

The floodgates threatened to open, and would have done had Jesus not been having an off day, though there was a scare when Ederson dallied in possession on his goal-line and was thankful his stray touch under pressure was cleared by John Stones.

It was Foden who eventually added the second, squirming a slightly fortuitous finish past Marek Rodák, before Ajayi diverted Kyle Walker's cross into his own net in first half stoppage time to effectively end the game as a contest.

Jesus got his goal shortly after the break, tapping home from a yard out after brilliant work from Sterling, before Mahrez added a fifth at the end of a flowing, length-of-the-pitch move.

Nicolas Otamendi then found the net for the first time this season with a powerful header, and substitute Leroy Sane's deflected strike made it seven late on, to match the hammering that Tottenham had given Tranmere on Friday night.
