Man City 6-3 Manchester United winners and losers as Haaland excels but Ronaldo helpless

Manchester City emerged with all three points as well as the early bragging rights, as the Blues ran out 6-3 winners over their intercity rivals in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Both Erling Haaland and Phil Foden were on fine form throughout the contest, as United's early season revival came to a crashing halt at the Etihad Stadium. Given a vibrant atmosphere and much to talk about in the build-up, City were in no mood to waste time, racing into a four goal lead before the half-time whistle sounded.

Cristiano Ronaldo cut a frustrated figure on the away sides substitues bench, with Ten Hag's tasting defeat in his first Manchester derby since his arrival earlier in the summer. With lots to dissect throughout, the Manchester Evening News have picked out three winners and three losers following the nine-goal thriller.

Winners

Erling Haaland

Taking no time at all to acclimatise to the Premier League, City forward Erling Haaland continues to smash records and once again netted a hat-trick for Guardiola's side. His dilligent forward play, combined with a terrific eye for goal means he at present is the most talked about striker on the planet.

Phil Foden

As far as super Sundays go, hitting a hat-trick against your arch-rivals in a Manchester derby must be up there for City forward Phil Foden, who again continues to go from strength to strength. Industrious and tidy throughout the game, the Three Lions man is giving Gareth Southgate no choice but to surely start him, as the World Cup in Qatar fast approaches.

Anthony Martial

A surprise inclusion no doubt on the list, but Man Utd forward Anthony Martial did all he can during his short cameo on the pitch at the Etihad. Heading home to reduce the deficit to four, before wonderfully disptaching his penalty to make it 6-3, his road to redemption under Ten Hag continues to gather momentum.

Losers

Cristiano Ronaldo

Failing to make an impact or be introduced into the game, it will be a game United forward Cristiano Ronaldo will no doubt wish to forget in a hurry. The Portuguese star cut a frustrated figure on the bench and with his future still up in arms, Ronaldo could do little but watch on as his team were heavily beaten.

Lisandro Martinez

It was always going to be a difficult ask for Lisandro Martinez to cope with the ever-threatening Haaland in the derby, but failing to make a tackle across the 90 minutes speaks volumes. With partner Raphael Varane withdrawn early on, the writing was seemingly on the wall, and for Martinez, it was a performance to forget.

Luke Shaw

Tormented during the first 40 minutes, City continuously got at United's full back, with Luke Shaw helpless at times. Replaced at half time for Tyrell Malacia, the England international was poor in his showing and was often pictured chasing the Blues players time and time again as they passed it round him.
