Gabriel Jesus scored twice as Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League with victory over Everton.

Pep Guardiola's side bounced back from their first league defeat of the season against Chelsea last weekend to move back ahead of Liverpool, who face Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

City had Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne back in the matchday squad, though only among the substitutes, while Marco Silva started with a back three for the first time in his Everton tenure, with Yerry Mina, Michael Keane and Kurt Zouma all included.

The home started slowly, and Everton might have taken the lead when Richarlison volleyed over from Lucas Digne's cross.

Keane almost turned Ilkay Gundogan's cross past his own 'keeper, but it was an error from Mina that created City's opener.

The Colombian centre half gave the ball away playing out from the back, and then kept Jesus on side as he fired home from Leroy Sane's pass.

The same pairing combined again shortly after the break to double the lead, Sane crossing for Jesus to power a header past Pickford.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin put Everton back in it, heading Lucas Digne's cross into the far corner via a touch from Fabian Delph, but Raheem Sterling made the game safe when he headed home from Fernandinho's dinked ball just moments after coming on.
