Man chased through Asda and battered with a wheel wrench in the aisles

A man was attacked with a wheel wrench in an Asda supermarket.

It was reported that following an argument between a man and a woman, the man was hit with a wheel wrench in the face.

Police have confirmed they are appealing for information following the assault, which took place in Asda on Strand Road, at around 4.45pm on Wednesday, December 15.

Witnesses shopping in the store at the time have told the ECHO they saw the man being "chased" through the aisles.

One woman tweeted that her son saw the attack and "had a panic attack."

The attacker made off from the scene from the back of the store on foot.

Once emergency services arrived at the scene they took the victim to hospital for treatment to a face injury. He has since been discharged.

Detectives are now carrying out CCTV and witness enquiries into the incident are and are asking anyone with any information is asked to contact police.

Detective Inspector Paul Gillies said: "This would have been an appalling incident for anyone to witness and we are working to find the person responsible and bring them to justice.

"We will not tolerate such violence in our communities and if you were in Asda on the Strand yesterday and saw anything, or captured any mobile phone footage, then please let us know. Information you hold could be vital to our enquiries.

"Whether you let us know directly or anonymously, through Crimestoppers, all information will be acted upon."
