A 19-year-old man was charged in a vehicle burglary Sunday in north suburban Vernon Hills.
Michael J. Corcoran, of Winthrop Harbor, is charged with one count of burglary from a motor vehicle, according to Vernon Hills police.
At 3:15 a.m., a resident of the Westwood subdivision called officers to report four people pulling on car door handles near Basswood Drive and Ashwood Court, police said. There, investigators found Corcoran and three others about a block away.
One person had a large amount of coins and “various other small personal items” on him, police said.
Officers saw some parked vehicles in the area appeared to have been entered with open glove compartments, police said. One parked vehicle was found with the driver’s door slightly open, and the owner told investigators that coins were taken from within.
Corcoran is being held on $10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 15. While the other three were taken into custody, Corcoran was the only person charged.
