Man charged with three counts of murder after Liverpool man dies in attack

A 25-year-old man has been charged with three counts of murder and attempted murder after an attack which claimed the life of a teacher from Liverpool.

James Furlong, 36, died last Saturday alongside his friends David Wails and Joseph Ritchie-Bennett. The three men died from knife wounds after being attacked in the Berkshire town's Forbury Gardens just before 7pm last Saturday.

Now Thames Valley Police have said they have charged a man in relation to the incident.

Khairi Saadallah, aged 25, of Basingstoke Road, Reading, has been charged with three counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

The incident was declared a terrorism incident by Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dean Haydon, Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing.

Mr Furlong, originally from Liverpool, was head of history, government and politics at The Holt School in Wokingham at the time of his death. He had previously taught at Liverpool's King David High School.

Saadallah is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday.
