Man charged with theft of more than 80 cows from SA property

A man accused of stealing 81 cows from an Adelaide Hills property has been arrested and charged with theft.

Police said a large number of Santa Gertrudis heifers were moved to a Tungkillo property in May but when the owner went to collect them in September the animals had been stolen.

They said investigations led to the arrest of a 52-year-old man from Tungkillo.

He was refused bail and is expected to appear in Murray Bridge Magistrates Court today.

Santa Gertrudis is a popular breed of beef cattle that was developed in Texas in the United States.
