Man charged with supplying cocaine to Motherwell mum who died weeks after giving birth

A man is to stand trial next year charged with supplying drugs to a new mother who died of a suspected cocaine overdose.

Rebecca Tollan , 23, was found dead at a flat in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, on July 15 after falling ill.

Her death came little more than two weeks after she gave birth to her son on June 28.

Barry McAuley, 37, has been charged with supplying cocaine to Rebecca and another woman on July 14 at the Railway Tavern pub in Motherwell.

He and Martin Stewart, 31, are also alleged to have been concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis at a property in Bellshill on the same date.

McAuley, of Bellshill, did not appear at a preliminary hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court today but a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf by a solicitor's letter.

His trial has been set for March 26 next year.

A warrant was granted for the arrest of Stewart, also of Bellshill, after he failed to appear in court.

Tributes were paid to Rebecca, of Motherwell, following her sudden death.

Her dad Andrew, 57, who runs the Motherwell butcher's where she worked, said: "She was reliable, honest and I can't ever say that she let me down. She will be remembered as bubbly, happy and cheery."
