A man has been charged with stalking Liberal Democrats leader Sir Ed Davey and his family for several months.
The Kingston and Surbiton MP reportedly was forced to call the police after a man turned up at his home and his constituency office.
Inigo Rowland, 58, from Surbiton, has been charged with stalking and possession of a flick knife, the Met Police told the Standard.
Mr Rowland was arrested on October 6 and the offences are alleged to have taken place between June and October.
The Sun reports that Sir Ed and his family are said to be “massively relieved” that there has been an arrest.
Sir Ed and his wife Emily, who he met at a Liberal Democrat policy working group, have two children, a son and a daughter.
Their eldest, John was born in 2007 with severe learning and physical disabilities and requires round-the-clock care.
Sir Ed often talks about his fears for his son’s welfare in the future. “My biggest thing with my son is: when I’m not here, who is going to look after him?” he previously said.
Emily has health troubles of her own, revealing a battle with multiple sclerosis. As well as John, the couple have a younger daughter called Ellie.
The Met Police also explained Mr Rowland appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates Court on October 7 and was remanded into custody.
He is expected to appear again at the court on Tuesday.
A Liberal Democrat spokesperson said: "We cannot provide any details at this time, Ed’s number one priority is the safety of his family."
