Man charged with stabbing Liverpool singer to stand trial

A man charged after the singer of a Liverpool indie band was stabbed will stand trial later this year.

Jason Medlicott appeared remotely at Liverpool Crown Court today (June 16) faced with charges in relation to the early hours incident.

Police were called to Church Street outside River Island in Liverpool city centre at around 4am on Sunday, March 1, after Thomas Dempsey, singer of Formby-based band The Kairos, was stabbed.

Lewis Chambers, another member of the band, which regularly gigs in Liverpool, also suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Mr Dempsey returned home from hospital in the days after he was stabbed in the chest.

20-year-old Medlicott, of Leinster Road, today pleaded not guilty to wounding Thomas Dempsey and Lewis Chambers with intent.

He also pleaded not guilty to affray following the city centre stabbing.

Medlicott was remanded in custody until the trial, which is due to take place on September 21 this year.
