Man charged with shooting murder of his 67-year-old wife

Efforts to revive the woman failed and she died at the scene.

The mother of several Queensland police officers was allegedly shot dead by her husband at their rural property south of Brisbane.

Queensland police said the 67-year-old woman was found on her rural property with a gunshot wound in Alexander Court, Chambers Flat just before 9:00pm on Friday.

Police will allege her 72-year-old husband shot her once in the torso with a rifle outside the front of the property.

He called emergency services for help but paramedics could not revive the woman and she died at the scene.

Detective Inspector Tony Lohmann confirmed the victim was the mother of several prominent police officers in the Logan district.

"The whole police community is rallied around those officers … like we would for any family," he said.

The couple had been married "many years", he said.

Inspector Lohmann said the accused killer was "distraught" but "cooperative with police".

Police have said the man was arrested with the assistance of the police helicopter.

The man has spent the night in custody.

He is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
